Job Summary/Basic Functions

For the Fall 2026 semester, we are looking for an instructor to teach ARTH 116 Global Art History I (prehistory – c. 1400 CE). In the ideal, we seek an experienced, energetic, and engaging instructor passionate about undergraduate students. Open to specializations across all relevant time periods and geographic regions, with particular interest in specialists in African, Indigenous American, and Indigenous Australian visual culture, as well as archaeologists able to teach within an art history context.

Required KSAs/Competencies/Qualifications

Varies depending on the course but for ARTH 116, a PhD in Art History preferred; ABD or an MA with relevant teaching experience may also be considered.

 

Required Experience:

Relevant teaching experience.

 

Required Education:

Doctorate in Art History; or doctorate in a closely related field with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in Art History. ABD or MA with relevant teaching or museum experience may be considered.

 

Required Licensure:

N/A

Additional Considerations:

  • For upper-level courses, more specific courses may be required.
  • Experience teaching courses in art history at the college level.
  • Experience in related fields (museum studies, not-for-profit arts organizations, auction houses, cultural or arts organizations, and related areas.
  • Ability to teach in person on the Fredericksburg campus.
