Job Summary/Basic Functions

The University of Mary Washington has an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Public Programs Coordinator. The Public Programs Coordinator facilitates and enhances the public visibility and funding of the James Monroe Museum through coordination of all onsite educational programs for general visitors and tour groups, and educational outreach programs; coordination of special Museum events; marketing and administration of Museum rental activities; preparation of print and online media; maintenance of the Museum-s website as part of the overall UMW website; marketing of the Museum on social media platforms; and other duties as assigned.

Required KSAs/Competencies/Qualifications

  • Ability to plan and present educational programs to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to post and modify website and social media content.
  • Ability to multi-task and perform position duties with minimal direct supervision.
  • Ability to prepare and present oral and written reports as directed.
  • Proficiency with standard office computer software and equipment.
  • Basic bookkeeping skills.

 

Required Experience:

  • Experience in presenting organized, thematic information to diverse audiences.
  • Experience in planning and managing promotional events and/or performances in a public setting.

KSAs:

  • Knowledge of learning styles and teaching techniques applicable to mixed-age groups.
  • Familiarity with Virginia Standards of Learning in History and Social Science.


EDUCATION:

  • Associate's from from an accredited college/university in a related field; or equivalent training and experience.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in a related field; or equivalent training and experience.


Experience:

  • Previous experience in program presentation and/or teaching in a museum or a public or private school.
  • Previous experience in the design and production of print publications, websites, and social media.
  • Volunteer or paid experience in a museum, historical society, tourism program, or community organization offering public programs.
