Job Summary/Basic Functions

The University of Mary Washington, an NCAA Division III institution located in historic and vibrant Fredericksburg, VA, is seeking an Assistant Coach for Men's Basketball. The Assistant Coach will assist in managing and directing the men's basketball program by performing responsible program building including but not limited to; planning, coaching, recruiting, assist in teaching PHYD 403, and administrative work assigned by Head Coach along with other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics. Work is performed under general supervision of the Head Coach and performance evaluation is based upon completion of assignments and results obtained. The performance evaluation is conducted through the performance evaluation system and in accordance with the University Policies & Procedures.

Required KSAs/Competencies/Qualifications

  • Ability to recruit, coach and teach highly talented student-athletes.
  • A proven record in following directives and being responsible for tasks which have been assigned.
  • Ability to scout opponents and break down game tapes.
  • Ability to adhere to all policies, rules and regulations of the university, the Coast to Coast Conference and the NCAA.
  • Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives and exercise independent judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities.
  • Ability to integrate resources, policies, and information for the determination of procedures, solutions, and other outcomes.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally, by phone, in person, and in writing.
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations in a timely manner.
  • Ability to represent the department and University in a friendly, courteous and professional manner.

 

Required Experience:

  • Playing experience or collegiate team manager.
  • 3+ years of collegiate coaching experience, assistant or head coaching.
  • Recruiting experience.

 

Required Education:

  • Completion of an undergraduate degree from an accredited college/university

KSAs:

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment as needed.
  • Ability to attend seminars, meetings and other professional development opportunities at or away from UMW.
  • Knowledge of management methods and ability to provide administrative guidance within area of responsibility.
  • Ability to provide direct training and supervision as needed.


Experience:

  • Previous experience in applying budgeting and fiscal planning techniques within financial constraints.
  • Previous experience running social media sites.
  • Knowledge of management methods and ability to provide administrative guidance within area of responsibility.
  • Experience using Synergy Sports Ware.
