The Garden and Grounds Manager at Gari Melchers Home and Studio is responsible for sustaining the natural historic resources tied to the interpretation of the site, particularly during the Melchers era. Responsibilities include physical care for these resources managed with grounds staff assistance, maintaining a database of all landscaping and their care needs, and managing contracted vendors such as tree services. The Manager serves as the GMHS safety officer, responsible for disaster response equipment, chemical compounds used in grounds care, and the Emergency Response Plan followed by all staff, and is one of the staff members on a scheduled rotation of weekend and holiday facility monitors who assume the primary management and security/safety responsibility for GMHS during that time. In addition, this staff members supervises Master Gardener and Master Naturalist volunteers; designs and implements all group garden tours; ensures compliance with Garden Club of Virginia maintenance regulations and coordinates with our GCV liaison to identify restoration needs.
