Job Summary/Basic Functions
The Instructor is a non-tenure track position held by an individual who possesses all the qualifications to be appointed at that rank. The Instructor's teaching responsibilities are assigned by the academic department head and may include serving as an academic advisor, meeting with students for office hours every week, serving on committees, being available to communicate with students regularly, attending department meetings, convocation, and other university-wide meetings as needed, keeping accurate attendance, providing syllabi by the first class day, grading assignments in a timely manner, submitting midterm and final grades on time, and communicating with the department chair and other faculty as needed.
The Instructor will also serve as the Director of UMW’s Project Management Certificate program, coordinate and collaborate with government program sponsors and the Director of UMWs Dahlgren Campus to identify and implement program requirements, work with the Associate Dean of Admissions to recruit government employees and government contractors to participate in the program, work with the Associate Dean or Program Directors of the College of Business to schedule professors and graduation events, serve as the program’s academic advisor and principal liaison for students in the PM Certificate program and those choosing to continue in the MBA program.
The Instructor will work with the Dean and Associate Dean or Program Directors of the College of Business, the Associate Provost for Career and Workforce, and the Associate Dean of Admission to develop and implement program strategies and plans, as well as conduct the annual review of the Memorandum of Agreement with program sponsors.
The Instructor will serve as a UMW ambassador for government focused graduate and certificate programs.
The Instructor is required to meet and maintain standards for one of the AACSB faculty categories in accordance with the College of Business and Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) accreditation requirements.
The essential duties and responsibilities of the Instructor are assigned by the academic department head. The Instructor facilitates a learning environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with others. Faculty member will be assigned a teaching workload of eight (8) courses per academic year in the areas of management, project management, contract management, or risk management. The successful candidate will join a college that is committed to student success and innovative and technology focused experiential teaching.
Additional Considerations:
Working experience in the Department of Defense acquisition community is preferred. Defense Acquisition University certification in the Project Management career field is preferred. Additional certifications in related career fields is desired (e.g., Systems Planning Research, Development, and Engineering (SPRDE), Business Financial Management BFM), Contract Management CM), etc.).
