Job Summary/Basic Functions
The Director provides strategic, university-wide leadership in establishing and overseeing plans, procedures, and policies pursuant to federal, state, and local regulations, guidelines, and industry-based best practices intended to eliminate or reduce work-related injuries and environmental pollution. The Director works to ensure compliance and continuous improvement in health and safety programs for students, faculty, and staff. The Director provides support to departments in facilitating their efforts to integrate health and safety into daily operations and planning.
Required Experience:
Progressively responsible leadership experience in an environmental health and safety position. Experience with organizations with multiple priorities, including hazardous waste management, fire inspection, radiation safety, asbestos abatement, industrial hygiene, laboratory safety, occupational health and safety.
Additional Considerations:
Certification courses in hazardous waste management, hazardous materials handling, fire inspection, radiation safety, asbestos abatement, and industrial hygiene. National Incident Management Systems and Incident Command System (NIMS and ICS certifications). Credentialing through the National Environmental Health Association, certifications in hazardous materials management.
