Job Summary/Basic Functions

  • To assist in supporting the department’s police / public safety programs at all University of Mary Washington campus locations.
  • To provide safety and security to students, faculty and staff in a professional, courteous manner through proactive foot and vehicle patrols, positive community engagement, and use of modern crime prevention techniques.
  • To maintain order and uphold the image and respect of all university community members through enforcement of university policies and crime prevention practices.
  • Position is required to work shift work (24 hour scheduling / Essential Personnel) and may be assigned to any of several university properties.
  • Incumbent must be able to maintain quality customer service ability and effective interpersonal communication skills while utilizing conflict resolution methods.

Required Experience:

Previous experience in military service or law enforcement or campus security.

Additional Considerations:

Previous years of experience or training in public campus security and safety operations. First Aid, CPR and AED training certification.
Law Enforcement/Security experience in a public service community policing oriented organization preferred.
Have basic skills in the operation of personal computers, records management systems, and understanding of NIMS/ICS are preferred. Knowledge of police/security “best practices” and OSHA standards.

Enforcement/Security experience in a campus public safety or security department that practiced community policing oriented service.

Current Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Service (VA DCJS) certification as a Campus Security Officer.
